Having good headrest speakers, properly wired (thanks in good part to Jeff's directions), and a new head unit with decent power has been a revelation, the car sounds way better now than ever. Having "no intentions on getting headrest speakers at all" is a good indicator of not having experienced a NA Miata with a headrest speaker system done suitably well. (The Metra 70-7901 Radio Wiring Harness wiring designations are far most often incorrect (and so too other documentations) because the NA Miata's headrest speaker wirings are far most often incorrectly wired in various mis-wired ways.) The car's smaller radio connector is for the headrest speaker system.
